This rescue figure 8 descender is larger than a sport figure-8 and has ears that keep the rope from forming a girth hitch. It handles 11mm to 16mm rope and has a breaking strength of 40 kN (8,992 lb).
Rescue teams use it to lower patients and heavier loads on thicker rope, and it can also add friction in a lowering system.
